Stop Howard Cosell
Published in Paperback by Tidemark Pr Ltd (September, 1983)
Authors: Larry and Phillips, Alan Rothstein and Alan Phillips
Average review score:

Book Description
T. Lipton Baggs was an ordinary sports fan. He loved to watch football, baseball and boxing on TV. But every time he tuned in he saw Howard Cosell. Howard talked and talked and talked. At first, Lipton could tolerate him, but, like a steady drip of water, Cosell took his toll. Lipton tried every way he knew to cope with Howard -- meditation, voodoo, excorcism. Nothing worked. Finally he quit watching sports cold turkey.
But the worst had only begun. He couldn't sleep. He saw Howard in his dreams. When he awoke, Howard was everywhere--at the bus stop, on his personal computer, at his favorite bar.
Now truly desperate, Lipton suddently realized that there was only one way to survive. He had to stop Howard Cosell.
How will he do it? Does he succeed? All sports fans still want to know.
Heavy handed, yet delicate......

Strategies in Teaching Anthropology
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (27 August, 1999)
Authors: Patricia C. Rice, David W. McCurdy, Conrad Phillip Kottak, and Yolanda T. Moses
Average review score:

Tools for Participatory Education
I work in various communities delivering community-based anthropology courses in a very short period of time from one week to a month. The activities and teaching strategies offered in this book are very practical and respond to a change in the field of education. The activities described in the book are easy to prepare and implement (and are fun to do). Most of the authors describe various in-class problems with which they were trying to address. Some authors also provide ideas to modify the activities according to the side of the class or the availability of resources. If you want to go beyond the straight lecture style of teaching this book certainly provides many ideas for creative teaching to stimulate consciousness-raising and encourage student participation. Two activities that stand out are "The Penny Game: An Exercise in Non-Industrial Economics" which examined the importance of reciprocity, and "The Trouble with the 'Race' Concept: It's All in the Cards" which enacts the problems in trying to classify "races". Other essays provide very practical strategies for preparing students for critical thinking, writing essays, critiquing films, participating in field visits to museums, and doing field research (excavating and interviews).

The Struggle and the Triumph: An Autobiography
Published in Paperback by Arcade Publishing (January, 1994)
Authors: Lech Walesa, Arkadiusz Rybicki, and Franklin Phillip
Average review score:

A great autobiography!!
Lech Walesa's autobiography is exceptional. It was great reading about a brave man who did not use violence to turn the tides not also in Poland, but he also was a very important figure in world peace and he was one of the reasons why the cold war ended. The book had a lot of humor which kept me wanting to read more. A must.

Stubborn Hope: Religion, Politics, and Revolution in Central America
Published in Paperback by New Press (August, 1995)
Author: Phillip Berryman
Average review score:

A connection between faith and political involvement
A brilliantly researched and written chronicle of the struggles of the oppressed poor of Central America.

Berryman has adroitly chronicled, over the past three decades, the struggles of the marginal, ethnic poor of Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua against their tyrannical oppressive political systems. Extremely insightful is the analysis he provides of the doctrine of "Liberation Theology" and "Proclamation Only Theology".

"The concern of this book," says Berryman, "is the role of churches and church people in the midst of revolution.... thus the focus of those who see a connection between their faith and some form of political involvement."

Highly recommended for all who are interested in or traveling to Central America

Supercrats: A Revealing Novel
Published in Hardcover by Zubra Pub Co (December, 1989)
Author: Trevor Phillips
Average review score:

a most revealing story of how US goverment truly operates
Having interviewed the author and conducted in-depth research to determine the truthfulness of the book's content I was amazed that these things occur in the United States. This is probably the most devastating indictment of american politicians and its court system ever published. And, it is all true.

Superior Species : Evolution Defies God's Design
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica, Inc. (May, 2003)
Author: Tony Phillips
Average review score:

Great Book!
If you like stories that make you think and are entertaining you will enjoy this book.
Superior Species has engaging characters, a believable plot, a touch of humor and plenty of action. The author is not afraid to touch on evolution versus creation and does it in a thoughtful way. A surprising hero with satisfying twists makes the story a real page turner. I am anxious to find another book by this author and I hope there will be another book with these characters.

One need not like science fiction, or be a sci-fi fan to enjoy and be captivated by this wonderfully unique novel. The story revolves around Marsha Peters, who heads up a college research team that collects specimens from the depths of the Pacific Ocean, and discovers an alternate life form there.
The intrigue and basis of this story is an intermingling of science and the most basic tenet of theology - the belief in God. The author utilizes a smooth-flowing prose to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, taking them along on a journey to help the science team help save humanity. This reviewer hesitates to give away much of the fantastic plotline so as not to spoil the plot for readers, but suffice it to say that this is a wonderful story of the ageless controversy of creation versus evolution. The author has grabbed the opportunity to evoke compassion and a bond between all the great characters in the research team, regardless of the reader's stance on the theory of evolution or personal religious convictions.
Superior Species is a rare treat to the senses, and one which leaves the reader thinking about it long after the last page is turned. If you read one book this summer, make this one it, for you surely won't be disappointed.

Supreme - Poems
Published in Paperback by North Atlantic Books (May, 1989)
Authors: Phillip Mahony and Phillip Mahoney
Average review score:

Supreme is part two of Phillip Mahoneys searing journey into
the very heart of NYC. He is a cop so his stories are told in the matter of fact manner of a seasoned veteran. The streets have gotten meaner since "Catching Bodies" but Mahoney cannot stop himself from confronting the violence and senselessness of this new generation, kids clinging to a superficial understanding of Muslim religion, and quick to shoot-out over nothing. The answers are not pretty in this book, but good poetry rarely is, and the eyes of a New York beat cop won't spare your sensibilities.

Employ staff, you must read this book
This book finally allowed me to be able to hire the right people, unfortunately near the time I sold my business. I only wish I had found it when I went into business, however that was before the book was published.
